Sussex Scrapbook ~ Wildlife walks throughout the year
Green Man
Saturday 4th February 2017
Shipley - Knepp - Dial Post - Shipley
6 miles

This walk has so much to offer: you start at a small village with a very interesting church as well as a fully-working windmill for gawd's sake Then over the river Adur, through beautiful woods and farms and into Knepp Estate, a large country estate with a huge mansion and the ruin of an ancient castle. The whole place has undergone a complete change in modern times - from an agricultural farm with no access - to a wildlife park covered in access land. It's teeming with life of all sorts and is a joy to stroll around.

The access map of the estate also points out the numerous treehouses/viewing platforms (stars).
They offer excellent opportunities for all types of wildlife watching.

A huge Red Deer Stag scraping the velvet off of his antlers.

Close up you can see how hard he has been rubbing this poor tree!

A dusk visit to one of the viewing platforms.

Back to Shipley for dark.

Take the time to read the countryside code for yourself and please stick to it at all times.
