High Trees - Devils Dyke - Southwick Hill - High Trees

9 miles

Even though England seems to be having the worst floods for years, along the South Downs today the only potential danger was from sunstroke! We walked west from High Trees car park near Bramber to Devils Dyke, then south across the downs on the Sussex Border path to Southwick hill and then back to up to High Trees using The Monarch's Way, a round trip of about 9 miles. There were stunning views in the sunshine with great visibility too, we could clearly see the North Downs from Devils Dyke.  We  saw mostly farm birds today, including corn bunting, yellowhammer, linnet, goldfinch, meadow pipit and skylark.
No photographs today because our camera has self-destructed, we have bought a new, mega-telescopic one that has hi-tech bells and whistles which will be perfect for wildlife photography, but it won't be here until next weekend.
