Sussex Scrapbook ~ Wildlife walks throughout the year
Green Man
Friday 24th - Monday 27th October 2014
Tyle Morgrug, Rhigos, Brecon Beacons.

I was once again kindly invited by 2nd Crawley to accompany their Scouts and Explorers to Wales, this time we stayed at the CYAT Bunkhouse in the Brecon Beacons where I stayed a month ago. This was one of their many mountain adventure weekends and for it to go well required a lot of help from the kids and they all chipped in without any moans or fuss.

We took them up four peaks on the first day - Fan y Big, Cribyn, Pen y Fan (886m) and Corn Du. The weather was mostly extremely damp with a certain amount of strong wind. Nobody seemed to care too much while we were walking but we did have to do a fair amount of drying out of kit when we got back.

The next day everyone went rock climbing on the wall of a quarry in Merthyr Tydfil. 2nd Crawley are all very adept climbers and managed to set up multiple pitches in double time and all managed to scramble up the vertical cliffs with ease.
After getting back to HQ we did a short hike along the river near our base before getting back for a roast dinner.

On the last day we all hiked along the River Neath and took in all of the waterfalls between Pont Melin-fach and Pontneddfechan including one that we could walk behind. The vehicles met us at the end of the hike and we all set off back for Sussex.

A nice sunny start but up ahead we can already see low cloud.

Our group reach the summit of Fan y Big.

A rainbow on the end of the ridge.

Pen y Fan in the thick drizzle.

Back to the fireside for a warm up.

Rock climbing - Looking for a climbing route up, or at least they're supposed to be..

I've found one!

The waterfall walk.

Beautifully autumnal.

We could even get behind this waterfall.

Well done everyone and thanks for inviting me along.

Take the time to read the countryside code for yourself and please stick to it at all times.
