Pulborough Brooks with Emily

Today we took our 9-year old niece Emily to Pulborough Brooks to introduce her to birdwatching. The morning had been foggy, but by the time her Dad had dropped us all there at 8:30  the sun was already shining and it was heating up. We showed Emily how to use the binoculars and pretty soon she was spotting birds on her own. She even managed to use the telescope in one of the hides and saw her first Grey heron. She got over her fear of snakes when we found an adder sleeping in the sun and got up close for a better look.
After some lunch in the visitors centre we walked back to Pulborough village via the River Arun making sure we stopped in every bit of shade we could find. At the village we went to the church to explore the graveyard, but soon we realised we needed to rush for the train back to Crawley. We made it to the station with one minute to spare!
Emily's Dad was at the station to meet her and she told us that she would love to come birdwatching with us again.
