Sussex Scrapbook ~ Nature walks throughout the year
Green Man
Friday 29th December 2006
Eastbourne - Beachy Head - Seven Sisters - Exceat
6 miles

My brother Simon and I decided to try and walk some of the lard out of our veins by hiking from Eastbourne, across the Seven Sisters to Exceat. We were very lucky with the weather and didn't get wet at all, despite severe storms affecting much of the country.
The tide was right out as we made our way along the cliffs and what with the low visibility and rough seas, made for a very dramatic backdrop to what was already a spectacular walk.
Nature seemed to be taking the day off today, but we did manage to see a Peregrine, Gannets, Brent geese, Curlews, Little Grebes and a Kestrel.
Looking back at our records, I find that Gill and I were here exactly a year ago to the
day. Life is full of strange coincidences innit!

The first real hill of the walk is almost vertical, but it gives you a great view over Cow gap and along to Eastbourne.

One of the most photographed lighthouses in the world! Very photogenic it is too!

In the summer this beach at Birling gap is full of people. Today it was just us.
